A note from the tech: a VHF is only as good as its antenna and the cable behind it. If your range has dropped, replace the coax and the PL-259 connectors before you replace the radio — it's the cheaper fix and it's the fault nine times out of ten. And register your MMSI before the radio goes in; DSC distress calling doesn't work without it.
